NEXT RECRUITING:
All prospective recruits must attend at least three brigade events, preferably monthly meetings, prior to being considered for the next recruitment course. Courses are organised based upon demand and no fixed date exists at this time. Contact wanneroobfb@wanneroobfb.org.au if you require additional information.
HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER
To be eligible to join Wanneroo Central Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, we ask that you attend our monthly meetings and complete our induction program. This program includes attending training, maintenance and other specific induction events.
All eligible members may undergo a medical examination and must undergo a police check (costs paid for by the City of Wanneroo).
Once you have fulfilled these requirements, you will be ready to complete the relevant introductory training modules.
Before applying, you should seriously consider whether or not you are up to the challenge. We attend fires throughout the year, including holidays, Christmas, New Years etc., and face physically and emotionally demanding situations. Wanneroo Central advises that you discuss joining a volunteer fire brigade with your family prior to making a commitment to the brigade.
WHICH BRIGADE DO I JOIN?
WANNEROO CENTRAL BRIGADE
If you reside in the Cities of Joondalup or Wanneroo, you may be eligible for membership in the Wanneroo Central Bush Fire Brigade. Suburbs include, but are not limited to, Banksia Grove, Beldon, Carramar, Connolly, Currambine, Edgewater, Heathridge, Hocking, Iluka, Joondalup, Ocean Reef, Sinagra, Tapping, Wanneroo and Woodvale.
Proximity to the station may determine your response status (i.e. Initial/First Responder or Secondary Responder) and your ability to go on 000 duty.
QUINNS ROCKS BRIGADE
If you reside in the Cities of Joondalup or Wanneroo, you are also eligible for membership in the Quinns Rocks Bush Fire Brigade. Suburbs include, but are not limited to, Butler, Clarkson, Jindalee, Merriwa, Mindarie, Nowergup, Quinns Rocks and Ridgewood.
Your response status and ability to go on 000 duty may depend on your proximity to the station.
WANNEROO FIRE SUPPORT BRIGADE (Clarkson Station)
If you reside in the Cities of Joondalup or Wanneroo, you are eligible for membership in the Fire Support Brigade. Proximity to the station does not affect response status or ability to go on duty.
TWO ROCKS BRIGADE
If you reside in the City of Wanneroo, you are eligible for membership in the Two Rocks Brigade. Suburb areas include, but are not limited to, Two Rocks or Yanchep.
Again, proximity to the station may determine your response status and your ability to go on 000 duty.
THEN WHAT?
After your basic training, you will be issued with your Personal Protective Equipment/Clothing, and become a probationary member of the Brigade. You will need to complete a skills log-book and 20 hours of live fire work prior to becoming a fully qualified active firefighter.
Meetings: As an active member of Wanneroo Central, you will be required to attend monthly brigade meetings. At least 1 in every 3 meetings should be attended.
Rostering and call-outs to incidents: If applicable, you will be rostered on for one weeknight roster, from 6pm until 6am the following morning for 1 week, or one weekend roster, 6pm Friday through to 6pm Sunday, per month. Members with a ‘first response’ status are required at the station for departure to an incident within 15 minutes of a pager call. ‘Secondary responders’ will be deployed as additional or relief crews as required.
Maintenance Day: On the first Sunday of every month we complete a full maintenance check and inventory on all of the brigade’s appliances.
Training: The brigade holds training on the first and third Tuesday of every month. All members are required to complete a minimum of 2 training sessions per yearly quarter in order for the Brigade to meet its duty of care requirements, and for members to keep up to date with operational policy and procedures.
